OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 23rd MARINES MEDAL OF HONOR NAVY CROSS CHALLENGE COIN. Great piece of history to add to your collection. The following information is taken from Wikipedia. Global War on Terror. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines was activated initially for one year to respond to any additional terrorist attacks that might occur in the United States. Just before its one-year deactivation date, the battalion’s active duty status was extended in order for the unit to deploy to the Middle East to participate in the Iraq War. 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines was the first complete infantry reserve battalion to deploy in support of the Iraq War. 2/23 pushed forward into Iraq on March 20, 2003. Among other locations, the battalion fought in An Nasiriyah assisting Task Force Tarawa’s operations in that area after a U. Army convoy was ambushed and several soldiers were taken prisoner by insurgent forces. The battalion moved up Route 17 as part of Regimental Combat Team 1 (RCT-1) fighting in Al Gharraf and Al Fajr among other towns. The battalion suffered its only combat fatality in Al Fajr. The battalion continued north with RCT 1 and was part of the tactical feint at Al Kut. Ultimately traveling west to An Numaniyah where the 1st Marine Division crossed the Tigris River. A few days later, on April 8, 2003, the battalion entered Baghdad with the Division. Fox Company found itself engaged in combat with approximately 200 Fedayeen and Iraqi intelligence personnel. A scout sniper attached to Fox company, Sergeant Scott Montoya, was awarded Navy Cross for “extraordinary heroism in combat” during this engagement. Checkout my store for coins, figures. Introducing the US NAVY SUPER RONIN CHIEF – MARIO THEMED CHALLENGE COIN! One of the hottiest Nintendo themed military challenge coins to exist fam, juicy stuff folks, believe me. This coin comes in 6 color variants, 2 of which are not obtainable due to only being made for the servicemen who designed/had these coins produced in very low quantities – anyways that leaves 4 variants that are obtainable but still are AF. Before I describe , a quick few DEETS – coin is metal , exhibits a nice thickness, and measurements are shown – coin is numbered on the sidewall in photo #11 but the angle makes it difficult to see – it was number 100 something – to the best of my knowledge, only 150-200 were produced. (you can see the other 3 variants on my website :D). THE FRONT: FAMS we have the LUIGI variant with all lovely Green. The front shows a Luigi themed but Samurai/Ronin infused art style immaculate attention to detail – we see a green SuperStar on top, on the left and right are “dangling” mushrooms! Luigi has his mustache and we see the Helmet art with horns , incredibly stylish and well made. THE REAR: Probably the real appeal of this coin is MFING BOWSER LOOKING LIKE A B. First the outer details , we see on the horn area, “RONIN CHIEF” and above Bowser, the colorful “SUPER” Mario themed font. To the left is a small USN Navy anchor emblem – “Super Ronin Chief” is the name of this challenge coin – So onto bowser, he is pissed, Bowser fury style, and has a clenched fist while looking slightly down – extreme detail to his spikes, angles, and body – just fab,, to finish off , the coin both front and back exhibit grooves/edges/lines that pop out, the coin has a 3D like effect that you can feel all the features as you pan your finger.
