USS Ross Destroyer Serial#s 001/071 Navy Challenge Coin
Named on behalf of Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Donald K. Aleigh Burks DDG-51 Class of. Aegis Guided Missile Destroyers. Display Case with 2 medals. Serial Number’s: 001 and 071. Condition: Meddals are in mint condition in plastic cases inside display case. The medals are 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The display case measure 8 1/2 by 11 inches and is 1 3/4 inches thick. The medals may be made of silver, but I have no means to determine. Silver was nowhere near the cost of what it is today. There is NO silver marking on the medals. This is a rare find and nice item for the collector. If you have any questions please ask. USS Ross (DDG-71) is an Arleigh Burke -class guided-missile destroyer in the United States Navy. Ross (19101992), who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism during the attack on Pearl Harbor. S keel was laid on 10 April 1995 by Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi and her christening was held a year later, sponsored by Helen Ross, widow of Capt. Her plankowning crew moved aboard in April 1997 and sailed her to Galveston, Texas for the commissioning on 28 June 1997. NOTE: Never personally given any of the coins.
