Original USS Maine SSBN-741 challenge coin presented to me circa 1995 by the then commander of that submarine; my sister was married to his son at the time. On the front there are the words “USS Maine SSBN-741″ & a depiction of the submarine at sea. On the other side it says “Remember the Maine” & there’s the seal for the submarine. On one side there’s the date of 1895 (for the original USS Maine) & on the other side the date of 1992 for the submarine. At the top of the seal it says USS Maine & at the bottom of the seal it notes: SSBN & 741. Also at the bottom of the seal is the motto: Leadership Peace Vigilance. The USS Maine is a US Navy Ohio class ballistic missile submarine commissioned in 1995. The challenge coin is thick & heavy for its size; it seems to be made of solid bronze. This is a great collectible as it was once owned by one of the former commanders of the USS Maine SSBN-741 submarine until he presented it to me.
